Description
The Athlon Cronus ATS 50-400 is a thermal riflescope from Athlon Optics with a 400×300 sensor and a fast 50 mm F1.0 germanium lens, built in a traditional 30 mm tube design. Its 50 mm lens gives a higher starting magnification for identifying game at longer range.
Why choose the Athlon Cronus ATS 50-400
With a 3.78x base magnification, the Cronus ATS 50-400 lets you identify animals at a distance without zooming far into the digital range. The 400×300 sensor keeps the price lower than the 640 version while keeping Athlon’s sharp 1440×1080 display and sensitive detector.
Key features
- 640×480 or 400×300 sensor with 12 µm pixels and sensitivity of 25 mK or better for clean, sharp images.
- High-resolution 1440×1080 OLED display with six colour palettes and adjustable brightness and contrast.
- Auto-shot recording that starts video when the scope detects recoil.
- Wi-Fi connection to the Athlon Thermal app on iOS and Android.
- More than 10 hours of use in most hunting situations, with an ECO mode to save power and USB-C for external battery packs.
- 30 mm tube that fits standard ring mounts; rings, eyepiece, case, charger and batteries are included.

Choosing the right thermal scope
Start with the distances you usually shoot. A 384 sensor suits most hunting at typical ranges, while a 640 sensor shows more detail and helps you identify animals further away. A larger lens gives more reach, but a smaller lens gives a wider field of view for scanning. Also think about battery life, weight and whether you want a built-in rangefinder. Who it is for
The Athlon Cronus ATS 50-400 suits predator and varmint hunters who shoot across open fields and want strong magnification at a more affordable price.
