Good hunting scopes need bright glass for dawn and dusk and a clear reticle. They also need enough zoom for your longest shot, without adding too much weight. Our range covers all of this, from budget models to premium European glass.
Popular choices include the Leupold VX-Freedom, VX-3HD and VX-5HD, the Sig Sauer Whiskey and Sierra, and the Meopta Optika and MeoPro. You will also find the Vortex Crossfire and Diamondback, the Burris Fullfield and the Zeiss Conquest.
Choosing magnification for hunting scopes
2-7x or 3-9x: ideal for woods and brush under 200 yards.
3-15x or 4-12x: the most versatile choice for mixed ground.
4-16x and above: better for open country and longer shots.
Too much zoom is not always better. For example, a narrow view makes it hard to find a deer that moves quickly at close range. So pick a range that matches where you hunt most.
Features worth having
An illuminated reticle helps at first and last light, because a black reticle can disappear against dark timber. Similarly, a BDC reticle gives you simple aim points for longer shots.
Also look for a model that is waterproof and fog proof. Hunting weather changes fast, so a sealed scope keeps working in rain and cold. In addition, capped turrets are less likely to move by accident in the field.
Budget and glass quality
Better glass costs more, but it gives a brighter picture in low light. That is when most game moves. Therefore, it pays to spend a little more on the scope than you might expect.
