Red dot sights project a lit dot that you place on the target. Because you keep both eyes open, you can aim very quickly. That makes them ideal for pistols, AR rifles and shotguns.
We stock models from Holosun, including solar-assisted sights, the Vortex StrikeFire, the Leupold Freedom RDS and the Riton Tactix.
Why choose a red dot?
A red dot has no set eye relief. So you can aim from almost any head position. As a result, target acquisition is faster than with iron sights or a traditional scope.
They are also simple to use. You just put the dot on the target and shoot. For this reason, many new shooters find them easier than iron sights.
How to choose red dot sights
Dot size: a 2 MOA dot is precise, while a larger dot is faster to see.
Footprint: make sure the sight fits your pistol slide or rail mount.
Battery life: many models run for thousands of hours.
Reticle options: some sights let you switch between a dot and a circle.
Pistol or rifle?
For pistols, choose a small, low sight that fits your slide cut. On the other hand, rifle and shotgun sights can be larger, so they often have a bigger window. In addition, you can add a magnifier to a rifle red dot for longer shots.
Also check the brightness settings. A good sight is easy to see in bright sun, yet it can also dim for night use.
