Laser rangefinders tell you the exact distance to your target. As a result, you can hold over correctly with a rifle or bow and make a clean shot. We stock rangefinders from Vortex and Leupold.
Why use rangefinders?
It is very hard to judge distance by eye, especially across open ground or in dim light. For example, a deer at 300 yards can look much closer than it is. So a rangefinder removes the guesswork and helps you shoot ethically.
How to choose rangefinders

Range: check the maximum range on game, not only on reflective targets.
Angle compensation: gives the true shooting distance uphill and downhill.
Display: a clear display is easier to read in low light.
Size: a compact unit fits in a pocket, so it is always close at hand.

Rifle or bow hunting?
Bow hunters shoot at short range, so they need fast, precise readings inside 100 yards. Therefore, many bow models have a special mode for close range. On the other hand, rifle hunters need more range, so they often choose a model that reaches 1,000 yards or more.
Tips for best results
Hold the rangefinder steady, or rest it on something solid. In addition, aim at a large, solid part of the target rather than grass in front of it. Also range a few landmarks before the animal appears, because then you already know the distances.
Finally, keep a spare battery in your pack, because cold weather drains batteries faster. If you need help choosing rangefinders, contact us and we will gladly help.
