Rimfire scopes are made for .22 LR, .17 HMR and other small calibers. They are usually set free of parallax at short range, around 50 to 75 yards. As a result, they give a sharp picture and good accuracy at the distances where rimfires shine.
Choose from proven models by Leupold and Vortex, including the VX-Freedom Rimfire, FX-I Rimfire, Crossfire II and Diamondback.
Why use rimfire scopes?
A normal centerfire scope is often set for 100 or 150 yards. So at 50 yards the image can shift slightly as you move your head. By contrast, these models are set for closer range, which helps you shoot tighter groups.
Many of them also have reticles that match the drop of a .22 bullet. For example, a rimfire MOA reticle gives you aim points for longer shots.
Choosing magnification
2-7x: great for small game and plinking.
3-9x: the best all-round choice for most rimfire shooters.
4x fixed: simple, light and fast.
Other tips
Check the tube size before you buy rings. Most use a 1 inch tube, so standard rings fit. Also check that your rifle has a rail or dovetail that matches your mount.
In addition, a light scope keeps a small rifle well balanced. That matters when you carry it all day.
Rimfire shooting is also a cheap way to practice, because ammunition costs less. Therefore, a good rimfire scope is a smart buy for training.
