Spotting scopes give you far more magnification than binoculars. As a result, you can judge game at long distance, see bullet holes at the range or watch wildlife in detail. We carry models from Vortex, Leupold, Athlon, Sig Sauer, Zeiss, Nikon, Meopta and Sightmark.
How to choose spotting scopes
Magnification: 15-45x suits most hunting, while 20-60x is better for the range.
Front lens: 65mm is lighter to carry, but 80mm to 85mm gathers more light.
HD or ED glass: reduces color fringing for a sharper image.
Waterproofing: keeps the scope working in rain and fog.
Angled or straight spotting scopes?
Angled models are more comfortable on a tripod. They are also easier to share with people of different heights. For this reason, most hunters and birders choose angled.
By contrast, straight models are faster to point at a target. So they work well from a vehicle window or when you look downhill.
Using a tripod
At high magnification, even small movements shake the image. Therefore, a solid tripod is just as important as the scope. Also consider a window mount if you often glass from a vehicle.
Hunting or target shooting?
Hunters often carry a scope far, so a light 65mm model makes sense. On the other hand, target shooters stay in one place, so a larger lens and higher zoom help them spot small bullet holes.
Finally, remember that glass quality matters most in low light. If you need help choosing the right model, contact us and we will gladly help.
