What the numbers on rifle scopes mean
Take a 4-16×44 scope as an example. It zooms from 4x to 16x, and it has a 44mm front lens. A larger lens gathers more light, but it also adds weight.
Tube size is also important. Most scopes use a 1 inch, 30mm or 34mm tube. A larger tube usually gives more room to adjust, so it suits long range shooting. However, you need rings that match the tube.
FFP or SFP?
An FFP (first focal plane) reticle grows and shrinks as you zoom. Because of this, the holdover marks stay correct at every magnification. By contrast, an SFP (second focal plane) reticle stays the same size. As a result, it is easy to see and popular with hunters.
Finally, think about light, weight and budget. Better glass costs more, but it gives a brighter view at dawn and dusk. If you need help choosing the right model, contact us and we will point you to the right model.
